Hmm, this now doesn't work for me either (and it's rather dark, as if the slider was at the lowest setting). The same version worked when I uploaded it, so this may be a regression in newer versions of something that ioquake3 depends on (SDL, Mesa, X). Quake III Arena has the same problem, and both games use the same engine (ioquake3) behind the scenes, so I'm reassigning this bug to the actual engine. What window manager do you use? If it's GNOME-Shell or Metacity, is it in compositing mode or not? Does the brightness slider work for you if you disconnect the external monitor and play OpenArena on your laptop? (That doesn't work for me, though.) What graphics hardware and driver are you using? (If you run openarena from a terminal, you should see lines starting with GL_VENDOR, GL_RENDERER and GL_VERSION). If you play OpenArena in a window (turn off Fullscreen), is it brighter? When I try this, it's much brighter than in full-screen, but the brightness slider still doesn't do anything (that might be an unavoidable limitation of SDL, though).
