pyExcelerator seems to be unmaintained. That's unfortunate, since: - it is likely to be used by webapps and email processing programs, so from the pov of security it is nice for it to be robust - there's no obvious API-compatible replacement Luckily the xlrd/xlwt modules exist and seem to occupy the same niche.
