I've discussed this issue with the release team [0] and they are also not convinced that this is reasonable for a squeeze update.
If anyone can suggest some text for the release notes, I will try to get it incorporated. If it is deemed useful, I can also try to provide backported packages. I'm not sure if this will be simple due to having switched to multiarch and other packaging changes but if people are interested I'm willing to have a look.
