I tried the following... Downloaded the older packages from snapshot.debian.org, and used dpkg to install (hence downgrading) them: xserver-common_1.11.0-1_all.deb xserver-xephyr_1.11.0-1_amd64.deb xserver-xorg-core_1.11.0-1_amd64.deb
Rebooted and the performance issues went away. There were some caveats though: 1. The arrows (for the scrollers) and radial selection buttons were not displaying properly. 2. X server had random crashes. I then changed my Theme to see if I could get back the arrows and radial buttons. Inside System>Preferences>Appearance>Theme: Clearlooks and Darklooks (and a few others) would not render the arrows and radial selection buttons; Nuvola and SphereCrystal would render correctly. After a while, the random X crashes were too much for me to take, so I upgraded the packages back to the Debian Testing versions (i.e. 1.11.1-1). That's when I noticed that the Themes which did not render properly when I downgraded the packages were the same Themes that would have the tab slowness issues. In short, when using Clearlooks / Darklooks Themes, the slow tabs problem exists; when using Nuvola / SphereCrystal Themes, the slow tabs problem does _not_ exist. I hope this helps in getting closer to the cause of the problem. - James On Fri, Sep 30, 2011 at 3:18 AM, Josselin Mouette <j...@debian.org> wrote: > > Since you’re both running nVidia drivers and have upgraded your X > server, my guess for nVidia drivers having performance issues with that > new Xorg version. > > Does it sound plausible to related maintainers? > > -- > .''`.
