Package: grub-splashimages Version: 1.0 Severity: normal
On installing the package, no errors were seen on the console. No splashimages were evident on the filesystem after install either :( Using find, I determined that none had been installed. Reading /usr/share/doc/grub-splashimages/README offers no helpful information. dpkg -x on the .deb extracts the images, but they are also unusable for some reason. update-grub looks in /boot/grub/ for splash.xpm.gz and if it finds it, adds it to the menu.lst. A system with a separate /boot would have the file at /boot/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz Modifying update-grub to look in the correct place fixes that problem, but the resultant config just scrambles the boot screen on boot. I don't know if the images are invalid, if there is a problem with the kernel, or some other missing link. There is so little documentation that it is not simple to work out what is wrong. ~$ dpkg -l|grep grub ii grub 0.95+cvs200406 GRand Unified Bootloader ii grub-splashima 1.0 a collection of great GRUB splashimages ~$ df Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/hda5 11016432 1521040 8935780 15% / tmpfs 254332 0 254332 0% /dev/shm /dev/hda1 49743 22221 24954 48% /boot /dev/hda2 65363884 11594540 50449020 19% /home -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-2-686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages grub-splashimages depends on: ii grub 0.95+cvs20040624-17 GRand Unified Bootloader -- no debconf information Regards, Michael -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
