"size of unsigned long is 8 rather than 4"
Unfortunately it seems the Unix client is still unhappy about the size of unsigned longs, and this is preventing the files being uploaded. The client will need to be tweaked here; the simplest would probably be to force it to read 4-byte words for each element of the version stamp. The server will notice the pattern is consistent with a 64-bit file and will regenerate the version info from the bones file. In future I plan to move away from the client having or needing any knowledge of the file version at all.
