I've just seen that the patch that was dropped from 3.03-4 did the same thing (it also updated the comment for Debian, which is better, but has no effects on the behavior). xpdf (3.03-4) unstable; urgency=low [...] * Assign system xpdfrc file location in debian/rules (drop patch).
