I fear not. Lenovo uses slightly different firmware on the not-so-ThinkPad ThinkPads (Edge, SL, L, X1xxe) making tp-smapi not work. There is maybe hope if you can get https://gitorious.org/linux-test-utils/tp_charge to work (please try!), but besides of that I have sadly no idea how to fix this on your "ThinkPad".
