I once went through bug reports in ttf-freefont and did my best to forward several of them upstream. This one was maybe not clear enough...or I just missed it. Please notice that before you took over the Freefont maintenance, upstream was much less responsive than you are now. (please note that I am *not* the main maintainer of ttf-freefont in Debian)
