I've been having the same problem with my Nova-T PCI (using the tda1004x module), although in my case the device worked anyway because of a prior firmware upload using an old udev/kernel combination.
A little digging ("udevmonitor --env", grepping of example rules files) shows that this line is required: SUBSYSTEM=="firmware", ACTION=="add", RUN+="/sbin/firmware_helper" (Tested and found to be working with kernel 2.6.13.1 and udev 0.068-2, with a small firmware-related patch which was posted to linux-hotplug-devel. I've *not* tested without this patch.) I suggest appending this to /etc/udev/udev.rules and paying attention to what's changed in this file when you next upgrade udev. -- | Darren Salt | d youmustbejoking, demon,co,uk | nr.
