I'm not really that masochistic...  

aplay happily reports that the wave file plays fine so I need a good method to 
debug.  

I was able to get libasound to segfault with certain option parms applied to 
snd-hda-intel in alsa-base.conf but I imagine they were invalid.

I could try blacklisting the hda-nvidia-codec to see if it isn't playing nice 
well with others, what do you think ?
