Package: iceweasel Version: 5.0-6 Many people post links in email as <URL> rather than as just plain URL. It was (and still is) recommended practice to indicate URIs like this....personally, i think it's not a good practice (I don't know of even one browser that accepts URIs typed or pasted in this form) but you can't break random people on the internet of habits acquired over a decade or more.
Unfortunately, if you double- or triple- click the URL to select it and then middle-click to paste it in to the browser, it won't take you to the page. current iceweasel takes you to a google search result. previous versions used to display an error page saying it wasn't a valid URL (it is). the problem would be solved if any leading or trailing angle brackets were stripped. It also adheres to the principle of robustness - be conservative in what you send, liberal in what you accept.
