I have created the alsa_local.conf file as specified and rebooted to confirm sound is still not present with the hdmi cable in use. I am currently receiving sound via an hdi + headphone out combo.
Any more suggestions to restore sound via hdmi only? Experienced Maintainers keep cool with anxious bug reporters. In most cases the bug resides between left and right ear ;-) I would try to create a /etc/modprobe.d/alsa_local.conf as follows: ############ alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=0 index=0 alias snd-card-1 snd-hda-intel options snd-hda-intel model=intel-alc889a index=1 ############ you can rememove model=intel-alc889a for testing proposes. HDMI -> first soundcard snd-hda -> second. You can find some more info's in /usr/share/doc/alsa-base/README.Debian, but if you're lazy keep on wining....
