I too confirms the same problem as Jan. Stopping the speech-dispatcher lets me play sound from my KDE session. I attached the same information you asked to Markus $ grep AudioOutputMethod /etc/speech-dispatcher/speechd.conf # AudioOutputMethod "pulse" Unfortunately I can't tell you about older versions of speech-dispatcher, because I used to use ALSA directly without pulseaudio installed.
