Package: aptitude Version: 0.6.3-3.2 Severity: important Installing a package with dependencies and removing it immediately will not always remove all dependencies. This affects probably only few packages. Examples are kdm and icewm.
An ``aptitude install icewm'' will install icewm-common, and ``aptitude show icewm-common'' confirms automatic installation. Now an ``aptitude remove icewm'' does not remove icewm-common and ``aptitude show icewm-common'' claims this package to be installed manually. On another testmachine a similar effect was observed related to kdm. That machine was set up newly and affected packages (7) were: libgcrypt11, libgnutls26, libgpg-error0, libldap-2.4-2, libpng12-0, libsasl2-2 and libtasn1-3. Since icewm enforced the installation of icewm-common there is no other package installed which could depend on icewm-common. ``aptitude remove icewm-common'' confirms this. This effect seems to be related to bug #432017. It is not clear whether the problem is related to aptitude directly or to the packages which are not removed correctly. There was no upgrade involved, the system is a Squeeze set up via debootstrap, and aptitude was not used in the interactive mode but only with command line parameters. -- Package-specific info: aptitude 0.6.3 compiled at Oct 18 2010 22:11:25 Compiler: g++ 4.4.5 Compiled against: apt version 4.10.1 NCurses version 5.7 libsigc++ version: 2.2.4.2 Ept support enabled.
