I have too much on my mind ATM to wrap my head around this, so just a 
quick comment: /usr/share/doc/build-essential/list is wrong to use, I 
believe - I seem to recall that Debian Policy forbids relying on the 
existence of /usr/share/doc/ .

Generally I am quite interested in suggestions for improving d-shlibs - 
its parsing is rather crude currently.

Could you perhaps be persuaded to propose a patch?  That saves us 
waiting for me having spare time and space in my head for really 
understanding the improvements that you suggest. ;-)
