Hi, Another quick comment (cc-ing the bug log this time).
John D. Hendrickson wrote: > Yes. A note in Deb. Install guide - around "preparing to apt-get > update" about update being release dependant would be nice. The Debian installation guide doesn't talk about upgrades. Probably you are thinking of the (squeeze) release notes, section "4.3. Preparing sources for APT": Before starting the upgrade you must set up apt's configuration file for package lists, /etc/apt/sources.list. Just a little earlier, in section "4.2. Checking system status", the manual says: Direct upgrades from Debian releases older than 5.0 (lenny) are not supported. Please follow the instructions in the Release Notes for Debian GNU/Linux 5.0 to upgrade to 5.0 first. The chapter is named "Chapter 4. Upgrades from Debian 5.0 (lenny)". Reiterating in section 4.3 or 4.4 could be a good idea, true --- though it makes me wish there were some easier way of presenting this information that doesn't punish people that read straight through with too much repetition. Care to suggest a wording, ideally in the format of a patch against git://anonscm.debian.org/~jcristau/release-notes.git or <svn://svn.debian.org/svn/ddp/manuals/trunk/release-notes>? > Thanks for the ideas and heads up ! I'm glad to see people, after running into problems, trying to do something productive about them. :) Cheers, Jonathan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
