Version 2.8.5-2 didn't, or at least it didn't work. In my bug report
(see the first message):

ypig:~> sshfs -o workaround=rename tomate: nfs
fuse: device not found, try 'modprobe fuse' first
zsh: exit 1 sshfs -o workaround=rename tomate: nfs

That was shortly after the upgrade to fuse 2.8.5-2.

Now, I didn't have anything to do after the upgrade to fuse 2.8.5-3.
Perhaps the problem was fixed in fuse 2.8.5-3. The changelog says:

fuse (2.8.5-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Updating udev check in postinst to also look for /run (Closes:
    #628050).

Since the symptoms (missing device) are the same and I was already
using a recent udev (I use Debian/sid), I suppose I was seeing
bug 628050. Can you confirm?

In such a case, the bug should be marked as fixed in 2.8.5-3 or
merged with #628050.
