As I understand, original bug reporter wished to "retrieve messages by
invoking command to get IMAP connection".

I commented as:

I thought if this part of script is finished, then your wish of "getmail
should have a retriever or retriever option to invoke a command and use
that as the connection." may be addressed.  Anyway, this
/usr/share/getmail4/getmailcore/retrievers.py seemed directly
corresponding to the missing feature.  My point is just point out
pertinent part of the code which had interesting comment by the
upstream.

I have no idea ... if you know, please send us patch then I will forward
