Package: ascd
Version: 0.13.2-5
Severity: normal

It is to be expected that ascd will be used as an always on application
docked in the Afterstep wharf.

However, it is probable that a CD disc will not always be present in the
CD device assigned to ascd.

Even though no disc is present, ascd continuously polls the assigned
CD device and the dmesg buffer soon fills up with nothing but the messages

[56592.140771] sr1: CDROM not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive.
[56592.970063] sr1: CDROM not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive.
[56593.799036] sr1: CDROM not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive.
[56594.718566] sr1: CDROM not ready. Make sure there is a disc in the drive.

Surely there is a better way for ascd to determine if there is a disc in
the drive ready to play.

Other CD playing applications eg xmcd do not continiously poll the device
resulting in these messages filling the dmesg buffer.

If this is not resolved, then it should be recommended that ascd is only
used when an audio disc is to be played and not as a swallowed application
in the Wharf, and the accompanying documentation should mention this.
