Updates to packages in the stable distribution are limited to the
following circumstances:
* the new package fixes a truly critical functionality problem;
* the package becomes uninstallable;
* a released architecture lacks the package.
See
http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/pkgs.html#distribution
for details.

Basically in order to get an updates package into stable I'd have to
convince the stable release managers that the package really fixes a
critical bug. With regards to this bug, this would involve two things:
determining that the bug is indeed critical, and determining that a
newer package fixes the bug, which would involve testing a preliminary
version of the package by someone experiencing the bug.

OK, thanks for the info. Could you show me the output of
        ps aux | grep inputattach
(it shouldn't be necessary to run this as root)?

Thanks in advance,

Stephen
