There's one other case, which is that if the package is using the RPC interface, you're stuffed as far as the 4.8->5.1 upgrade notes seem to say. I'm going to have to think about how to tackle this for gridengine. I suspect I'm going to have to patch it to be able to use berkeleydb locally but not in RPC mode.
