Package: grub-pc Version: 1.99-6 Severity: normal
I recently upgraded my computer, from 1GB of RAM to 4GB (1GB x 4 Corsair Memory all alike). Suddently, Grub was really, really slow when booting. The grub's loading message remains on the screen during 20-30secs before boot. I removed the memory and when the computer had 2GB of RAM grub booted normally. I set the memory back and the last feature I didn't check was the 'AGP Apperture Size' in the BIOS. It was set to 256Mb and I reduced it step by step. When AGP Apperture Size was set to 4Mb Grub booted normally. After that I downgraded to grub-legacy, set AGP Apperture Size back to 256Mb and grub booted normally as well. Then I upgraded to grub-pc and grub booted slow again. I can't leave AGP Apperture Size to 4Mb because openGL performance is bad as hell (glxgears runs at less than 1fps). So I think there is a problem with grub-pc. Meanwhile, I'm installing grub-legacy. -- Package-specific info: *********************** BEGIN /proc/mounts /dev/root / reiserfs rw,relatime,notail 0 0 /dev/sda2 /home/ACME/Desktop/Documentos reiserfs rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,notail 0 0 *********************** END /proc/mounts *********************** BEGIN /boot/grub/device.map (hd0) /dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST3120022A_3LJ0PGLC (hd1) /dev/disk/by-id/usb-ST960821_A_††††††䰳ㅇ䵂奃-0:0 *********************** END /boot/grub/device.map *********************** BEGIN /boot/grub/grub.cfg # # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE # # It is automatically generated by grub-mkconfig using templates # from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub # ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/00_header ### if [ -s $prefix/grubenv ]; then load_env fi set default="0" if [ "${prev_saved_entry}" ]; then set saved_entry="${prev_saved_entry}" save_env saved_entry set prev_saved_entry= save_env prev_saved_entry set boot_once=true fi function savedefault { if [ -z "${boot_once}" ]; then saved_entry="${chosen}" save_env saved_entry fi } function load_video { insmod vbe insmod vga insmod video_bochs insmod video_cirrus } insmod part_msdos insmod reiserfs set root='(hd0,msdos1)' search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root fa1bb880-36b4-42f6-b929-42804492d47a if loadfont /usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 ; then set gfxmode=800x600 load_video insmod gfxterm insmod part_msdos insmod reiserfs set root='(hd0,msdos1)' search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root fa1bb880-36b4-42f6-b929-42804492d47a set locale_dir=($root)/boot/grub/locale set lang=es_ES insmod gettext fi terminal_output gfxterm set timeout=1 ### END /etc/grub.d/00_header ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ### set menu_color_normal=cyan/blue set menu_color_highlight=white/blue ### END /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/10_linux ### menuentry 'Debian GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.38.6' --class debian --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os { insmod gzio insmod part_msdos insmod reiserfs set root='(hd0,msdos1)' search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root fa1bb880-36b4-42f6-b929-42804492d47a echo 'Loading Linux 2.6.38.6 ...' linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38.6 root=/dev/sda1 ro quiet vga=795 acpi_enforce_resources=lax } menuentry 'Debian GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.38.6 (recovery mode)' --class debian --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os { insmod gzio insmod part_msdos insmod reiserfs set root='(hd0,msdos1)' search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set=root fa1bb880-36b4-42f6-b929-42804492d47a echo 'Loading Linux 2.6.38.6 ...' linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38.6 root=/dev/sda1 ro single } ### END /etc/grub.d/10_linux ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/20_linux_xen ### ### END /etc/grub.d/20_linux_xen ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober ### ### END /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/40_custom ### # This file provides an easy way to add custom menu entries.
