Package: unscd Version: 0.47-2 Severity: normal Actually the socket /var/run/nscd/socket is created each time unscd is restarted.
Since I couldn't get rid of this message I reverted to nscd. Then, when I read your answer I reinstalled unscd. And I can't explain why, but I didn't see this message anymore when adding a user to a group (but there is a lot of debug messages as described in #622230). pitchum@belgarion:~$ LC_ALL=C sudo adduser pitchum staff Adding user `pitchum' to group `staff' ... sent invalidate(passwd) request, exiting sent invalidate(group) request, exiting Adding user pitchum to group staff sent invalidate(passwd) request, exiting sent invalidate(group) request, exiting sent invalidate(group) request, exiting sent invalidate(passwd) request, exiting sent invalidate(group) request, exiting Done. However the error message still shows up when I restart the service: pitchum@belgarion:~$ LC_ALL=C sudo service unscd restart Restarting Micro Name Service Cache Daemon: unscdsent shutdown request, exiting cannot connect to /var/run/nscd/socket . -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0.1 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages unscd depends on: ii libc6 2.11.2-10 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib unscd recommends no packages. unscd suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
