or something triggered in your code by g++-4.6. Do the build logs show some
suspicious warnings, e.g. about strict aliasing?

need to narrow this down more.

 - rebuild with gcc-snapshot
 - rebuild with gcc-4.6 from unstable
 - combine objects from a good and a bad build to narrow this down to
   an object file.
