Package: git-dpm
Version: 0.7.1-1
Severity: wishlist

The patches generated by git-dpm currently end by default with the
git-format-patch signature containing the current git version number.

This is somewhat awkward because git version updates on the maintainer's
system result in unnecessary changes to the package.

For instance, adding a security fix with a different version of git than
the one it was released with will result in a much longer debdiff than
necessary. This causes extra work to the security or release team who
need to review the changes.

While this can be fixed with the git-config setting
 format.signature = ""
it would be nice if git-dpm used 'git format-patch --no-signature'
by default, or at least recommended unsetting format.signature in its
manual page.

Thanks for git-dpm; we're switching the perl package to use it and are
very happy with the result.
