Hello John, last year Christian Perrier did an NMU with your consent to close the l10n related bugs. Unfortunately, somehow the encoding of de.po broke in this process (as per #628464) and German users now experience partially broken output.
To assist you, we suggest to prepare another NMU to fix this. As a few documentation/l10n related bugs have been reported as well, we would fix them in the same run (all changes of course with your implicit or explicit consent) as they have impact on the translations as well. The idea would be to upload to stable-propsed-updates as well as to unstable, since the broken Debconf message should be fixed for German speaking stable users as well. Also l10n uploads to stable-propsed-updates are accepted. In summary, we suggest to include the following fixes in the NMU: * Non-maintainer upload. * Correct encoding of po/de.po and fix a typo. This Closes: #628464 * Fix typos and ungarble --help. This Closes: #577171, #603541 * Unfuzzy previously complete translations, i.e. cs, de, he, fr, ja, lt, sk and sv, as far as possible.[1] * Add a missing slash in po/fr.po * Add --previous to msgmerge in "po/update.sh" [3] * Update Swedish translation. Thanks Martin Bagge. Closes: #579298 * Update Hebrew translation. Thanks Omer Zak. Closes: #579305 * Update Slovak translation. Thanks Ivan Masár. Closes: #587803 Added the missing "\n" in one string.[4] * Update Czech translation. Thanks Miroslav Kure. Closes: #601075 * Add German man page translation. Closes: #628766 Update man/po4a.cfg and debian/rules to actually build and install it [5] * Trival update of French man page translation. Closes: #603884 * Fix formatting errors in man page and unfuzzy translations. Closes: #628767 * Suggest resolvconf. Closes: #266819 [6] [1] Unfortunately for some reasons some additional formatting and one real string addition happened, so most languages are still 2f. We are still discussing, if we might request those languages (or possibly all?) for an update round to get them recompleted. [3] This is to help translators (and me, actually) to faster update their files. See also [1]. If necessary, could be removed again. [4] "msgfmt --statistics" complained. [5] I only hacked in the German translation. Maybe the files should use wildcards etc. for future translations? If you think this is the way to go, I could update that as well. I did not change this because one might consider a wildcard solution as too intrusive. [6] The definition of Suggests fit the use case here so perfectly that I could not resist. We could revert this, if you feel it is too intrusive or have some other reasons for not setting it. You can download "my" working copy from http://www.helgefjell.de/data/pppconfig-2.3.18+nmu3-suggestion.tar.bz2 What's left open: a) Minor: Lintian complains about ancient standards version We would probably leave this as is. But if you know a newer version your package complies with, it could be updated of course. b) Major: Lintian error: dir-or-file-in-var-run var/run/pppconfig/ Maybe you could check on this? It would be great if you could indicate if you are ok with the NMU and if you would like some changes in the NMU (i.e. leaving fixes out or adding things, e.g. as mentioned in a) and b)). For completeness sake: I build my working copy on stable/amd64 (I could try it in an unstable sid i386 chroot and in sid alpha chroot from march) but did not try it out (except for --help). The final fixes and upload would be done by Christian, as I'm only a Debian maintainer (and not a developer) so I'm unable to upload this package myself. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask us (please include both of us in replies, as at least I'm not always available in the next weeks).
