Recently, it was just fighting against bit-rotting. gnome-alsamixer etc. will work better." gamix has been orphaned for 5 years and has had no upstream updates since 2003. Now an RC bug has been filed (FTBFS: #628255) which just adds to the reasons to remove gamix from sid and wheezy.
