Bug#627026: fatal: unable to determine open file limit

Apparently this problem is related to 2.6.37 kernel. I upgraded to 
kernel 2.6.38.6 after which mail was again deliverable locally.

I'd assume that the same goes with bug #626928, whic was also related to 
file limits.
