Hello again, sorry for the delay but I have been very busy at work. I use a custom kernel, not debian kernel release, so as Andreas Tille told I enabled binfmt_misc. Now figtree works perfectly.
However, if the problem were the option bigfmt_misc, the author's figtree should neither work, but it did with bigfmt_misc disabled (the same version, 1.3.1). So I think that bigfmt_misc is not really needed in this case (though I am not a developer). Thank you for your time.
