Hi, just a few data points:
- In use at schools, iceweasel (and OpenOffice) "crash" often enough that automatic lock removal during off-hours is usually implemented. - The tendency for iceweasel to have unaccessible bookmarks and history after a "crash" is quite new, on older systems iceweasel just refuses to start. - The same problems happen on local disk as well, but using NFS makes the problems much more likely to occur and complicates the problem space (file locks on server). - For SQLite locking vs. NFS see http://www.sqlite.org/faq.html#q5 "But use caution: this locking mechanism might not work correctly if the database file is kept on an NFS filesystem."
