You're right. Reinstalling this makes X run again. Thanks! Actually, I may have uninstalled xserver-xorg-video-ati myself. I dimly recall thinking it weird that I could uninstall the ATI package without uninstalling the RADEON package. I figured that if RADEON required it, there would be a package dependency.
