Package: linux-2.6 Version: 2.6.38-3 Severity: normal File: acer-wmi Tags: patch
I'm on an Acer Aspire One 721-3574. The symptom was that I couldn't enable wireless with any of the usual tricks. After doing a bit of research and (days) of playing, I finally figured out that for whatever reason, the acer_wmi kernel module was soft blocking every wireless card on the laptop (external usb nic's too). I've pasted an example session here: http://paste.pound-python.org/show/6077/ acer-wmi is obviously buggy, doesn't seem to provide much utility, and causes more trouble than it solves. My suggestion is to blacklist it in wheezy until the problem is fixed -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 2.6.38-2-amd64 (Debian 2.6.38-3) (b...@decadent.org.uk) (gcc version 4.4.5 (Debian 4.4.5-15) ) #1 SMP Thu Apr 7 04:28:07 UTC 2011 ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-2.6.38-2-amd64 root=UUID=61c64b0f-de80-4029-9afb- 4754d1aed692 ro quiet ** Tainted: PWO (4609) * Proprietary module has been loaded. * Taint on warning. * Out-of-tree module has been loaded. ** Kernel log: [ 7.908976] [fglrx] module loaded - fglrx 8.83.6 [Mar 8 2011] with 1 minors [ 9.660165] Adding 1922044k swap on /dev/sda4.
