Since this change would influence a lot of packages at build time, it is
better to make this change at a time most of the packages would be
rebuilt anyway, like at the time of a new upstream release.
The next upstream release of the Globus Toolkit (5.2) had an alpha
release in December, so it will hopefully be released soon.
In the new release, the globus-gpt2pkg-config script - which was part of
the Debian packaging additions in the past - has been integrated by
upstream into the new version of grid-packaging-tools (3.3). I have
therefore forwarded this feature request upstream.
