From what I can see, you installed the /lib/udev/mtp-probe binary into the
libmtp8 binary package.
I hope you realize that this way the package is no longer co-installable (with a
future libmtp9 package).

Is there a strictly versioned dependency between the udev rules+prober and the
library package?
If not, I'd suggest moving the udev rules+prober (and the hal addon) into a
separate package, say libmtp-runtime, and let libmtp8 depend on it (or demote
that to a recommends or suggests even).
