Thanks. That workaround worked for me, although the first time I tried it I got 
a backtrace with permission denied on /usr/share/guile/1.8/slibcat. Running 
sudo gnucash and opening the file, fixed the problem for subsequent non 
privileged invocation. I guess that workaround is indirectly alluded to within 
the other bug which this is a duplicate of.
