No rush. It's not a feature I need. I still have the same symptoms. I've not fiddled with any settings file. I clicked "enable web client" in transmission-gtk, then un-checked "use authentication" and then clicked open web client. This opens a new chromium tab, to http://localhost:9091/transmission/web Which brings up the http basic auth dialog.
