Package: plymouth Version: 0.8.3-18+b1 Followup-For: Bug #610287 I did some investigation and found that plymouth flashes on shutdown only if X server is running and computer isn't shut from login manager.
I have made two videos (sorry for poor quality, it has been recorded with cell phone): http://minio.xt.pl/pliki/plymouth-from-gdm.ogv http://minio.xt.pl/pliki/plymouth-from-gnome.ogv As you can see, if I shut down computer from within GDM, plymouth theme shows up (you can see some messages, but that's allright, I think). But if I login into GNOME desktop and then shut down computer, plymouth briefly shows up (you can see it in seventh second, but it can be missed with blink of an eye) and then nothing happens (no shutdown messages can be seen, just two "INIT:" lines). Plymouth always flashes if you have X started up. It doesn't matter if it's GNOME, LXDE or Fluxbox. You can even login as root on 1st TTY an do 'shutdown -h now', but plymouth will just flash. But if you shut down computer from login manager (I tested Slim, GDM and KDM with the same result), you will be able to see whole animation. If you login as root on 1st TTY, close login manager and then run 'shutdown', whole animation will be seen. If you login as root, close login manager, relogin as user, do 'startx' and then shut down computer, whole plymouth animation will be seen. It seems that Should-Stop line of /etc/init.d/plymouth is not working correctly, but I have no idea how to fix it. Or maybe something is wrong with my configuration of either plymouth or GDM? -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.38-2-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=pl_PL.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=pl_PL.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to pl_PL.UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages plymouth depends on: ii initramfs-tools 0.98.8 tools for generating an initramfs ii libc6 2.11.2-11 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib plymouth recommends no packages. plymouth suggests no packages. -- Configuration Files: /etc/plymouth/plymouthd.conf changed: [Daemon] Theme=debian-logo -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
