The problem appears to be fixed in the latest vanilla upstream kernel
source, which at the time of this writing is 2.6.39-rc3. I don't
know which git commit contained the fix, but the server has been
running for several hours, with no other load than the hourly cron
jobs; so it is reasonable to assume that a number of page faults have
occurred and have been successfully handled. I will run the upstream
vanilla kernel source until a Debian package containing the fix is
available. Thanks, Jonathan.
