I have really low experience about these issues and tend to think that here the fault is mostly of the Java Runtime Environment than of JOSM itself. Unfortunately I cannot see Thai fonts even with defoma installed. But my native script is the latin one, so I'm not very expert with managing fonts. Could you please provide me an OSM file with some strings that you can see with defoma, can't see without defoma? And can you tell me the name of a font that contains the required glyphs?
