The index.lighttpd.html placeholder page does not work on a new Debian install. Steps to reproduce this problem: Fresh install of Debian 6 apt-get install lighttpd http://localhost Rather than the default placeholder page you will see a directory listing. Fix: There is a typo in /etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf under index-file.names A space in front of the file name is present that should not be there. " index.lighttpd.html" should be "index.lighttpd.html".
