As the Geeqie version is the same I presume a problem with any of the libraries, geeqie is using. But for the moment I see no which. Maybe you can strace the second problem (with CTRL-V) to see where the problem happens. Or even run it in debugger (installing geeqie-dbg). There is also a debugging switch in geeqie, but I do not think that it helps in this case.
