Download epub.css from here: https://github.com/jgm/pandoc/raw/master/epub.css
Then just add '--epub-stylesheet epub.css' to your command line (assuming epub.css is in the current direstory), and it should work properly. John, I'm not sure what you mean about blanks at the beginning of the document--epub output will fail regardless of the input if it can't find epub.css. I'm pretty sure this is just a packaging problem, and an easily worked-around one at that.
