Package: iputils-ping
Version: 3:20100418-3
Severity: normal

Hi,

I today discovered same problem.

When using:

 ping 192.168.1.2 -I eth2 -s 4000 -M do -n

(eth2 have mtu 3000).

I see repeatdly

>From 192.168.1.1 icmp_seq=1 Frag needed and DF set (mtu = 3000)
>From 192.168.1.1 icmp_seq=1 Frag needed and DF set (mtu = 3000)
>From 192.168.1.1 icmp_seq=1 Frag needed and DF set (mtu = 3000)
>From 192.168.1.1 icmp_seq=1 Frag needed and DF set (mtu = 3000)

about 9000 times per second.

Fortunetly no icmp packets are sent.

But it will be good to have fixed this for two reasons:
  - it nows fills console quickly, removes scroll history,
and makes it hard to stop it using Ctrl-C when started
    over ssh with slow link
  - stressess DNS server for reverse lookups.
    i.e. ping bugs.debian.org -s 4000 -M do -c 1000 (without -n)
will push 2002 DNS reverse request for 192.168.1.13
to my ISP DNS server in less than a second.
(well it depends on how fast network and DNS is,
but essentially it will do requests as fast as it recives replays).

Please fix this, as it is very simple change to add nanosleep or something.

IMHO also icmp_seq should be incremented each time.

Thanks.
