I'd like to get some initial feedback on a feature idea before I have a go at implementing it. The --ignore-missing-release option is useful, but even better would be an option that took a list of dists, like --dist does, and instead of even trying to download them, just read their local metadata for use in orchestrating cleanup. Essentially, a tradeoff - for being willing to specify the specific list of dists expected to exist locally but not remotely, I get to avoid the errors (even if they are non-fatal) that ignoring missing Release files currently raises. The use-case for this is maintaining a local mirror of etch past the time it has been removed from the official mirrors. I'm notionally thinking of such an option as --local-only-dist - better naming suggestions welcomed. Max.
