wicd was running. It felt responsible for eth0, ignoring the
bridge configuration in /etc/network/interfaces. After removing
this serice the network configuration looks better.

I would still recommend to include the suggested changes to
the kvm-ifup script. It is more clever in guessing the
default bridge. For a regular bridge installation the
impact of this change is almost zero.
