So I suppose it is the exec-commands module despite the fact that the commands are currently specified in the lcd conf file. I would imagine that there's no requirement for one application executing another to set the HOME environment variable, but letting it become "/" is definitely a bug. If laptop-mode is going to execute commands, the environment should either be clean or sane. The executed command has no way of knowing that it shouldn't make its configuration files in / and the user of laptop-mode has no way to know that the application to be run might be passed strange environment variables.
