There is a wishlist bug on debhelper about this (#521562), but it will at a minimum need to wait until debhelper v9, and probably will never make sense to address it in debhelper at all as things continue to evolve. In the meantime, fix your package. A bug or misfeature in debhelper that causes some breakage in your package is still your responsibility to workaround, and the workaround is trivial.
