Package: ntpdate Version: 1:4.2.6.p2+dfsg-1+b1
Hi, A very consistent and easy to reproduce issue: Affecting: Debian Squeeze (not lenny or older, Sid untested) Package: ntpdate Version: 1:4.2.6.p2+dfsg-1+b1 Issue: ntpdate to a server using v3 (for example any windows domain controller offering ntp service on port 123/udp), forcing version option changes nothing. The very same command using v3 ntpdate to the same servers from an Etch or Lenny work flawlessly Both the squeeze and lenny test show same tcpdump output, no difference there. The debug messages show no error but a clear difference: - Working update via v4 ntp server: $ ntpdate ip-of--v4-ntp-server originate timestamp: d11e76b8.9d3a3be8 Sun, Mar 6 2011 22:10:16.614 transmit timestamp: d11e76b8.994decb6 Sun, Mar 6 2011 22:10:16.598 filter delay: 0.02640 0.02605 0.02605 0.02605 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 filter offset: 0.015105 0.015042 0.015068 0.015085 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.02605, dispersion 0.00002 offset 0.015042 6 Mar 22:10:18 ntpdate[24537]: adjust time server x offset 0.015042 sec - Not working update via any v3 windows ntp server you may find: $ ntpdate ip-of-windows-v3-ntp-server reference time: d11e74fc.b978e91f Sun, Mar 6 2011 22:02:52.724 originate timestamp: d11e7739.c5811a46 Sun, Mar 6 2011 22:12:25.771 transmit timestamp: d11e7739.c0018479 Sun, Mar 6 2011 22:12:25.750 filter delay: 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 filter offset: 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.00000, dispersion 64.00000 offset 0.000000 6 Mar 22:12:27 ntpdate[24539]: no server suitable for synchronization found Regards Sven -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
