Only the package has a different name. The software name itself is "GDM - GNOME Display Manager" in both cases. Moreover README.Debian references 2.26, which was gdm, not gdm3. This is confusing (bug reported, see bug 616603). One may also wonder why one has "/usr/share/gdm" instead of "/usr/share/gdm3". Those who don't know GNOME may not know yelp, which is not a standard way to get the manual. The standards are man pages and files under /usr/share/doc/<package>. Moreover, those who cannot start X or X applications because of the XAUTHORITY problem (this was my case) will not be able to run yelp. And why "yelp ghelp:gdm", not "yelp ghelp:gdm3"? This is unintuitive. > Feel free to propose patches to the user manual at bugzilla.gnome.org. Well, the man page is Debian-specific.
